Gutter Cleaning Cost in NJ

Gutter cleaning is usually priced per visit. The table below shows New Jersey market ranges by number of stories, a statewide average and common add-ons. Here is what places a home low or high in its row.

Price ranges for gutter cleaning

Researched New Jersey market ranges, gathered from published contractor price guides and national cost surveys in October 2026. They are not our quote: your price comes from a free on-site estimate, and we will replace these ranges with our own rates.

  • Gutter cleaning, one-story home, per visit: $70 to $250 per visit, typically about $164
  • Gutter cleaning, two-story home, per visit: $100 to $400 per visit, typically about $235
  • Gutter cleaning, three-story home, per visit: $130 to $500 per visit, typically about $315
  • Gutter cleaning, NJ statewide average (any height): $119 to $431 per visit, typically about $280
  • Unclog downspout (add-on to a cleaning): $25 to $75 per downspout, typically about $50
  • Heavy-debris / long-neglected surcharge: $50 to $150 per visit, typically about $100

Stories and roof height

Height is the first thing that moves the price. A one-story ranch can often be done from a short ladder, while a three-story home needs taller ladders, more setups and slower, careful work. That is why the one-, two- and three-story rows step up. The statewide row blends all heights, so it sits between them.

How much debris is in the gutters

A gutter cleaned last fall is quick work. A gutter left for several years, packed with compost or growing seedlings, takes much longer and fills many more bags. That is where a heavy-debris surcharge comes in; the table shows its range. Homes under pines or large oaks also tend to land toward the top of their row.

Downspouts that will not clear

Flushing downspouts is part of a normal cleaning. A downspout packed solid at an elbow, or one that runs into a buried line, may need separate work to clear, priced per downspout. The typical figure is $50 each. A downspout that clogs every season is often a sign it is undersized; see downspouts and drainage.

Length, roof shape and access

More linear feet means more time. Steep roofs, dormers, porches with their own gutters, and runs above decks, pools or tight side yards all add setups. Gutter guards that must be lifted off and replaced to clean underneath also add labor.

Reading a quote and saving money

  • Check that bagging and haul-away are included.
  • Look for downspout flushing on the quote, not just the gutters.
  • Ask whether a heavy-debris charge applies before the visit, not after.
  • Book on a schedule: a regularly cleaned gutter is faster to clean.
  • Ask about a seasonal cleaning plan if you clean twice a year.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

4 questions and answers.

Why does a two-story home cost more to clean?

Taller ladders, more setups and slower work at height add time on every run. Safety equipment and careful ladder placement on a two-story house are part of what you are paying for.

Is a heavy-debris charge common?

It is common for gutters that have gone several seasons without cleaning or have plants growing in them. Gutters on a regular schedule rarely need it, which is one more reason to clean before debris has a chance to pack down and rot.

How can I keep cleaning costs down?

Clean on a regular schedule so debris never builds up, trim branches that hang over the roof, and consider guards if your lot needs more than two cleanings a year. To get a price for your home, book a free estimate.

Does the price include checking for damage?

A look at hangers, seams and slope usually comes with the cleaning. Any repairs found are quoted separately, so you can decide whether to go ahead. Nothing beyond the cleaning is done without your approval.
