Gutter Cleaning
A clean gutter carries rain to the downspouts and away from the house. A clogged one overflows onto siding, beds and the foundation, and holds heavy wet debris that pulls the gutter off the fascia.

What a gutter cleaning includes
- Leaves, needles, seeds and sludge removed from every run by hand.
- Debris bagged and hauled away instead of dumped in your beds.
- Each downspout flushed, with clogged elbows cleared.
- Water run through the system to confirm it flows to the outlets.
- A look at hangers, seams, end caps and pitch while we are up there.
- Ground cleanup below the roof edge, and a note of anything that needs repair.
How often New Jersey gutters need cleaning
Most homes need two cleanings a year. The first comes in late spring, once oak tassels, maple seeds and blossoms have finished falling, so the gutters are clear for summer storms. The second comes in late fall, after the leaves are down, so the gutters do not freeze full of debris.
Homes under pines often need a third visit, because needles fall all year. A house with few nearby trees may get by with one fall cleaning. If you clean more than twice a year, gutter guards are worth pricing.
Signs your gutters are overdue
- Water spilling over the front edge during a steady rain.
- Grass or seedlings growing out of the gutter.
- Dark streaks on the siding or fascia below a run.
- A downspout that stays quiet while rain pours off the roof.
- Washed-out mulch or puddles along the foundation.
- Large icicles along one stretch of gutter in winter.
Why ladder work is worth handing off
Gutter cleaning means carrying weight while reaching sideways at the top of a ladder. On a two- or three-story home that is a real fall risk, and a ladder set on soft lawn or leaned against an aluminum gutter can slip or dent it. Wet debris is heavier than it looks, and the electrical service line often runs to the roof edge. A professional crew sets its ladders so the gutter never carries the weight.
Cleaning for businesses, HOAs and apartments
Larger buildings collect more debris across longer runs, and a clog over an entrance is a slip hazard for tenants and customers. NJ Gutter cleans gutters on commercial buildings and multi-family properties, with visits planned around the property and its residents.
One visit or a plan
A single cleaning suits a home that needs attention now. If you would rather not track the seasons yourself, a seasonal cleaning plan books spring and fall visits ahead of time. Either way, book a free estimate and we will look at the trees and roofline before quoting.

Process
Is the fall or the spring cleaning more important?
In most of New Jersey, fall matters most, because leaves left in the gutter freeze in place and block meltwater all winter. Spring cleaning catches tassels, seeds and anything winter loosened, so the gutters are ready for heavy storms.
Do you clean the downspouts too?
Yes. Every downspout is flushed as part of the cleaning. A downspout packed solid at an elbow can take extra work to clear, and the estimate will note it if that is likely.
What happens to the debris you remove?
It is bagged and taken away rather than tipped into planting beds or left on the lawn. The area under the roof edge is cleaned up before the crew leaves.
Will you tell me if my gutters need repair?
Yes. While cleaning, the crew looks at hangers, seams, end caps and slope. Anything loose, leaking or holding water is pointed out so you can decide whether to have it repaired.
Guards
Should I wait until every leaf has fallen?
For the fall visit, waiting until most leaves are down gives the best value. Cleaning too early in a heavy oak year can mean the gutters fill again before winter.
