What a gutter system does
Gutters catch the water running off a roof and send it to downspouts, which carry it away from the house. Without them, rain falls in a sheet along the eaves, splashes the siding, soaks the soil next to the foundation and finds its way into basements and crawl spaces. A working system has three parts that all matter: gutters pitched slightly toward each outlet, hangers that hold them tight to the fascia, and downspouts sized for the roof and aimed away from the walls.
How to choose: profile, size, material and guards
Most new systems are seamless gutters, formed on site to the exact length of each run so the only joints are at the corners. From there, four decisions shape the job.
- Profile: K-style gutters suit most houses with siding; half-round gutters suit older and historic homes
- Size: 5-inch handles many roofs; 6-inch is common for large or steep roof planes
- Material: aluminum for most homes; copper gutters for their look and long service life
- Guards: gutter guards for houses under oaks, maples or pines

How the estimate works
Every job starts with a free estimate at the property. An estimator walks the rooflines, measures each run, counts corners and downspouts, checks the fascia behind the gutters and looks at where water ends up in the yard. You receive a written quote that lays out the options, such as gutter size or whether to add guards, so you can compare them side by side. Nothing is ordered until you decide, and there is no charge for the visit. Book a free estimate to get started.
Gutters and New Jersey weather
New Jersey asks a lot of a gutter. Nor'easters and summer thunderstorms dump heavy rain in a short time, so undersized gutters overflow even when they are clean. Mature oaks and maples fill gutters within weeks each fall, and pine needles slip in all year.
In winter, temperatures cross freezing again and again, and water left standing in a clogged or sagging gutter freezes and pries at seams and hangers. Snow melting off a warm roof can refreeze at the cold eave and build an ice dam that pushes water under the shingles. Sizing, guards and heat cable are all ways of answering those conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Pricing
How do I get a quote?
Call (888) 611-3987 or request a free estimate online. The office is open Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
Process
How often should gutters be cleaned?
At least once a year for most homes, ideally after the leaves finish falling in late fall. Houses under heavy tree cover often need a spring cleaning as well, and some need more. If you find yourself cleaning three or four times a year, guards are worth pricing.
Are seamless gutters better than sectional gutters?
For most homes, yes. Sectional gutters are joined every ten feet or so, and each joint is a place a leak can start. Seamless gutters are cut to the full length of the run, leaving joints only at corners and end caps, which means fewer places to fail and a cleaner line on the house.
What size gutters does my house need?
It depends on how much roof drains into each run, how steep the roof is and how many downspouts the run has. Many houses do well with 5-inch gutters, while large or steep roof planes often call for 6-inch gutters and larger downspouts. The estimator sizes each run during the visit.
How long do gutters last?
Aluminum gutters commonly last twenty years or more with regular cleaning and prompt repair of leaks. Copper can last far longer. Hangers, sealant and fascia often wear out before the gutter itself, which is why a sagging or leaking run can sometimes be repaired rather than replaced.
Warranty
What warranty does New Jersey Gutter offer?
New Jersey Gutter backs its work with a workmanship warranty. It covers how the job was done: seams, hangers, pitch and fastening. Gutters, guards and other products also carry their manufacturer's material warranty. Your length and terms are written on your estimate and invoice.
