Downspout Cost in NJ
Downspouts are priced by the linear foot of pipe installed, and clearing a clogged one is priced per downspout. The table below shows New Jersey market ranges; here is what moves a home within them.
Price ranges for downspouts & drainage
Researched New Jersey market ranges, gathered from published contractor price guides and national cost surveys in October 2026. They are not our quote: your price comes from a free on-site estimate, and we will replace these ranges with our own rates.
- Aluminum downspout (2x3 / 3x4), installed: $2.50 to $17 per linear foot, typically about $7
- Copper downspout, installed: $14 to $34 per linear foot, typically about $20
- Underground downspout drain line (market reference): $10 to $30 per linear foot, typically about $20
- Unclog downspout (add-on to a cleaning): $25 to $75 per downspout, typically about $50
Aluminum or copper
Material sets the base rate. Aluminum downspouts, in 2x3 or 3x4, are the everyday choice and cover the low end of the table. Copper downspouts start at $14 per foot and run up to $34, because the metal costs more and the joints are soldered or carefully fitted to match a copper gutter system.
Length and number of downspouts
Total footage is what you pay for, and it grows with the height of the house and the number of outlets. A two-story colonial with four downspouts uses far more pipe than a ranch with two. Adding outlets to fix overflow raises footage but often saves money on repairs and water damage later.
Elbows, extensions and outlets
Each downspout needs elbows at the top to clear the eave and at the bottom to turn away from the wall, plus extensions to carry water out. Houses with deep overhangs, bay windows or offsets need extra elbows. Cutting a new outlet into an existing gutter adds labor at the top.
Clearing a clogged downspout
A downspout packed at an elbow is cleared as an add-on to a cleaning, priced per downspout from $25 to $75. Repeated clogs point to a downspout that is too small or a gutter without enough outlets, which is worth fixing rather than paying for every season. See the gutter cleaning cost guide for visit pricing.
Underground drain lines, for reference
The underground drain row in the table is a market range for a buried drain line, for reference only. It is there so you can budget the whole drainage plan if your yard needs water carried farther than an extension can reach. When you book a free estimate, we will show you where each downspout should send its water.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
4 questions and answers.
Why are 3x4 downspouts priced in the same row as 2x3?
Both are aluminum and installed the same way, so they share a market range. A 3x4 tends to land a little higher in it because the pipe and fittings are larger.
Do I pay extra for extensions and splash blocks?
Often they are included with new downspouts, but not always. Check the quote for elbows, extensions and splash blocks so the water actually ends up where it should, well away from the foundation.
Why does copper cost so much more?
Copper is a costlier metal, and the joints take more time to fit and finish. It is chosen to match copper gutters and for its long life, not to save money.
Is a buried drain line worth the cost?
Where a yard slopes toward the house or extensions are in the way, it can be. On most lots, properly placed downspouts with extensions keep water far enough away at a fraction of the cost.
