Roof replacement, roof repair and flat roofing
Roof replacement is for a roof that has reached the end of its life: curling or missing shingles, bare spots where the granules have worn off, recurring leaks in different places, or decking that feels soft underfoot. Roof repair covers problems that are still local, such as storm damage, a few blown-off shingles, failed flashing around a chimney or vent, or a single leak. Flat roofing covers the low-slope sections many houses have over porches, additions, dormers and garages, which are built with membrane systems rather than shingles and need a different kind of attention to drainage.
How gutters and roofs work together
The drip edge is a strip of metal along the roof's edge that sends water off the shingles and into the gutter instead of behind it. If the drip edge is missing or the gutter sits too low, water runs down the fascia and rots it. In winter, heat escaping through the attic melts snow on the upper roof, and the water refreezes at the cold eave as an ice dam. Water then backs up under the shingles. Many roofers lay a self-adhering ice-and-water membrane along the eaves for this reason, and clear, well-pitched gutters keep meltwater moving off the edge.
Replacing gutters with a new roof
Gutters often have to come off during a roof replacement so the drip edge and eave membrane can be installed correctly. If the gutters are older, leaking or undersized, that is the most practical time to install new ones, because the fascia is exposed and can be repaired first. Even when the existing gutters are in good shape, they should be checked for pitch and secure hangers when they go back up. See gutter replacement for what that involves.
The free estimate
An estimator inspects the roof and the gutters together, explains whether repair or replacement makes more sense, and gives you a written quote. You can book a free estimate, contact us with questions, or browse recent projects first.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
6 questions and answers in 4 topics: Pricing, Process, Warranty, Service area.
Pricing
How do I get a quote?
Call (888) 611-3987 or request a free estimate online. The office is open Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
Process
Can my roof be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof is sound, a repair is usually enough. If shingles are worn across the whole roof, leaks keep appearing in new places or the decking is soft, replacement is the better investment. The inspection during the free estimate answers this for your house.
Should I replace my gutters at the same time as my roof?
If the gutters are aging, leaking or too small, doing both together is usually the sensible choice. The gutters often come off for the roof work anyway, and new ones can be fitted to the new drip edge with the fascia repaired first. Sound gutters can be reinstalled and checked.
Do you work on flat roofs?
Yes. Flat roofing is one of the three roofing services we offer, alongside roof replacement and roof repair. Low-slope sections over porches, additions and garages are common on New Jersey homes, and they rely on good drainage at the edges, which ties back to the gutters.
Warranty

New Jersey Gutter backs its work with a workmanship warranty. It covers how the job was done: seams, hangers, pitch and fastening. Gutters, guards and other products also carry their manufacturer's material warranty. Your length and terms are written on your estimate and invoice.
