Seamless Gutters

Seamless gutters are made at your house, not in a warehouse. A forming machine turns a flat coil of metal into a continuous gutter cut to the exact length of each roof edge, so joints appear only where the house turns a corner.

Compare

Seamless vs. sectional gutters

For most New Jersey homes, seamless gutters are the better choice: formed on site with no mid-run joints, they leak far less than sectional gutters and last longer, though they cost more up front and must be professionally installed.

How seamless gutters are made on site

The forming machine rides in the crew's truck or trailer. A roll of painted aluminum, or copper for a copper job, feeds through a series of rollers that bend it into the gutter profile as it comes out the other end. The crew measures each roof edge, runs out exactly that length, and carries the finished piece to the ladders. Because each run is made for one spot on one house, there is no stock length to work around and nothing to splice in the middle of a wall.

Why fewer seams means fewer leaks

Sectional gutters are sold in short lengths joined with connectors and sealant. Each joint is a place where sealant dries out, where expansion and contraction tug the pieces apart, and where leaves catch and hold water. After several New Jersey winters of freeze and thaw, those joints are where most drips and stains start. A seamless run removes those middle joints entirely. The water that reaches the trough has one way out: the downspout outlet.

Where seams still exist

Seamless does not mean no joints at all. A few connections are part of every system, and they are made carefully because they are the only ones left.

  • Mitered corners, where two runs meet at the corner of the house
  • End caps, sealed at the closed end of each run
  • Downspout outlets, cut into the floor of the gutter
  • Expansion joints on very long runs, which let aluminum move with the seasons without buckling

Colors and finishes

Aluminum coil comes with a baked-on factory finish in a wide range of colors, from white and almond through browns, grays and black. Most homeowners match the trim so the gutter reads as part of the fascia; others match the roof or the siding. The finish is on the metal before it is formed, so there is nothing to paint later. Downspouts are ordered in the same color, and so are color-matched Gutter Cap covers if you plan gutter guards.

Profiles you can get seamless

The most common seamless profile is K-style, in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes. Copper K-style can also be formed seamless. Half-round gutters are more often installed in shorter sections joined at sealed or soldered seams, which is part of why they look and cost the way they do.

I hired NJ Gutters to replace my 5" K-styles. They recommended a 6" replacement and suggested round, rather than the typical rectangular downspouts. I am totally pleased with their work and the results. They worked neatly and cleaned up well before leaving. I would recommend NJ Gutters without hesitation. When they received my check, they called me back to tell me that I missed an available discount by paying by check rather than credit card. The invited my to send in the discounted amount, a savings of almost $100. That is a class act!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

8 questions and answers in 4 topics: Pricing, Process, Warranty, Service area.

Pricing

Do seamless gutters cost more than sectional ones?

Installed by a contractor, the difference is small, because the labor to hang either kind is similar and seamless runs need fewer connectors. The bigger savings show up later, in fewer leaking joints. Book a free estimate to compare options for your home.

How do I get a quote?

Call (888) 611-3987 or request a free estimate online. The office is open Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM; Saturday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.

Process

Is seamless right for your house?

For nearly every house with a standard fascia board, yes. The exceptions are homes with built-in box or Yankee gutters that a homeowner wants to preserve, and historic exteriors where half-round sections are the right look. For a full replacement, see how a gutter installation runs from estimate to cleanup.

Are seamless gutters really leak-free?

No gutter is leak-free forever, but seamless runs remove the joints where most leaks start. The remaining corners, end caps and outlets are sealed during installation and are easy to inspect. Keeping the gutters clean matters just as much, because standing water finds any weak point.

How long can a single seamless run be?

As long as the roof edge. The machine forms whatever length the crew measures. On very long runs the installer may add an expansion joint and pitch the run from the middle toward downspouts at each end so water drains quickly.

Can a damaged seamless gutter be repaired?

Small dents, loose hangers and leaking corners can usually be fixed in place. A badly crushed section can be cut out and patched, though the result will have a new seam. For larger damage, replacing that one run is often the cleaner answer. See gutter repair.

Warranty

What warranty does New Jersey Gutter offer?

New Jersey Gutter backs its work with a workmanship warranty. It covers how the job was done: seams, hangers, pitch and fastening. Gutters, guards and other products also carry their manufacturer's material warranty. Your length and terms are written on your estimate and invoice.
