Siding installation covers full re-siding and siding for additions. Siding replacement is for siding that has faded, cracked, warped or let water in, and starts by removing the old material and checking the sheathing behind it. Siding repair fixes local damage such as storm-torn panels, cracked boards or a section stained by an overflowing gutter. We work in vinyl and fiber cement.
How siding and gutters work together
The gutter hangs on the fascia, the soffit sits under the overhang, and the siding runs up to meet them. When a gutter overflows or leaks behind itself, water runs down the wall and gets behind the siding, where it rots sheathing and window frames out of sight. Where a roof meets a sidewall, a kickout flashing at the bottom of the roof edge steers water into the gutter instead of down the wall. Getting these details right is easier when one company handles the siding, the gutters and the roof.
Vinyl or fiber cement
Vinyl siding is lightweight, does not need paint and is one of the most common choices on New Jersey homes. Fiber cement is heavier and more rigid, holds a crisp painted finish, resists fire and impact and looks more like painted wood clapboard. Process
Should I replace my gutters when I re-side my house?
If the gutters are aging or leaking, it is a good time. Gutters often come down so siding and fascia trim can be installed cleanly, and new gutters can go back up on fresh trim.
Can new siding go over old siding?
Sometimes, but removing it is usually better. Removal shows whether the sheathing is wet or rotted and lets a new weather barrier and flashing go on correctly.
Do you repair siding or only replace it?
Both. Damaged vinyl panels and fiber cement boards can be replaced individually when the rest of the wall is sound. See siding repair.
