Siding Installation Cost in NJ

Price ranges for siding installation
Researched New Jersey market ranges, gathered from published contractor price guides and national cost surveys in October 2026. They are not our quote: your price comes from a free on-site estimate, and we will replace these ranges with our own rates.
- Vinyl siding (standard), installed: $3 to $12 per square foot, typically about $7
- Fiber cement siding (James Hardie-class), installed: $5 to $15 per square foot, typically about $10.50
- Remove and dispose of old siding (non-asbestos): $0.50 to $3 per square foot, typically about $1.35
Material: vinyl or fiber cement
Vinyl siding installed ranges from $3 to $12 per square foot, with $7 typical. Thicker panels, insulated vinyl and premium profiles sit toward the top. Fiber cement ranges from $5 to $15 per square foot, with $10.50 typical, because the boards are heavier, take longer to cut and install, and are often painted or prefinished.
Removing the old siding
Taking off existing siding adds $0.50 to $3 per square foot, with $1.35 typical. Removing a single layer of vinyl is quick, while old wood clapboard or several layers take longer and land toward the top of the range. Asbestos-containing siding is not covered by these figures; it needs special handling under state and local rules and is priced separately. Removal also reveals the sheathing, and any rotted boards found are replaced before the new siding goes on.
The shape and height of the house
A simple two-story box goes quickly. Gables, dormers, bay windows and many windows and doors add cutting, J-channel and trim work. Three-story walls need more staging and safety setup. Trim work at windows, soffit and fascia is often a meaningful part of the total and should be listed on the quote.

- House wrap and flashing at windows, doors and roof-to-wall joints.
- Soffit, fascia and window trim, listed separately.
- Sheathing repair, priced per sheet or by allowance if found.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
4 questions and answers.
Why is fiber cement more expensive than vinyl?
The boards themselves cost more, they are heavy and need special cutting with dust control, and they are nailed and finished more carefully. That shows up in the per-foot price.
Is removal always needed?
Not always, but it is usually recommended so the sheathing can be checked and a proper weather barrier installed. Covering wet or rotted sheathing traps the problem.
Does the price include gutters?
Usually not. Gutters are taken down and put back as part of the job, but new gutters are priced separately. See the gutter installation cost guide.
Are these prices a quote?
