Heated Gutter Cost in NJ

Heated gutters are priced by the linear foot of heat cable installed. The table below shows the New Jersey market range, from $5 at the low end to $22 at the high end. These are the factors that set where a home falls.

Price ranges for heated gutters

Researched New Jersey market ranges, gathered from published contractor price guides and national cost surveys in October 2026. They are not our quote: your price comes from a free on-site estimate, and we will replace these ranges with our own rates.

  • Heated gutters — self-regulating heat cable, installed: $5 to $22 per linear foot, typically about $15.20

How much of the roofline is heated

Footage is the main driver. Heating every gutter on a large home costs far more than heating the two shaded runs where ice forms every winter. Many owners start with the problem areas, such as north-facing eaves, valleys and the gutters over entries, and add more later if needed. Long, plain runs cost less per foot to heat than short runs broken up by corners and dormers, because there is less fitting at each turn.

Gutters and downspouts together

A system that heats the downspouts as well as the gutters adds cable down the length of each downspout. It is worth it: a heated gutter that drains into a frozen downspout simply moves the ice. Taller homes have longer downspouts, so height raises the footage.

Electrical work

The cable needs an outdoor circuit with ground-fault protection near the roofline. If one is not already in place, an electrician adds it, and that cost is separate from the per-foot rate in the table. Ask whether the quote includes the circuit or assumes one exists.

Retrofit or new gutters

Heater Cap retrofits to most existing aluminum and copper gutters, which keeps the cost to the heating system itself. If the gutters are sagging or worn, replacing them at the same time avoids paying to fit heat to a system that will soon come down; compare with the gutter installation cost guide.

How to read a heated gutter quote

  • Linear feet of gutter and of downspout heated, listed separately.
  • Which runs are covered, marked on the house.
  • Whether electrical work is included, excluded or assumed.
  • Any gutter repairs needed before the system goes on.
  • How the system is switched on and off for the season.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

4 questions and answers.

Why is the range per foot so wide?

Simple loose cable sits at the low end, while integrated systems that heat the gutter and downspout and sit low along the roofline cost more per foot. Height and access also add labor.

Is the electrician included in the price?

Usually not in the per-foot figure. If your home needs a new outdoor circuit, that work is priced on its own, so check how the quote handles it and who will schedule the electrician.

Can I save by heating only part of the house?

Yes. Heating only the eaves that ice up each winter keeps footage down, and more runs can be added later if ice shows up elsewhere. To find out which runs need it, book a free estimate.

Does a heated gutter cost much to run?

Self-regulating cable draws full power only in cold, snowy conditions and less as they ease, so it costs much less to run than cable that heats at full output all season.
